Takanori Yokosawa

Takanori Yokosawa ( Japanese 横 澤 高 徳 , Yokosawa Takanori ; born March 6, 1972 in Yahaba , Shiwa County , Iwate Prefecture ) is a Japanese politician (non-party → DVP ) and former athlete. Since 2019 he has represented Iwate in the Council House , the upper house of the Japanese National Assembly .

After graduating from the prefecture-run technical high school Morioka (Iwate kenritsu Morioka kōgyō kōtō gakkō) , Yokosawa became a test driver for Suzuki ( Suzuki Motor ), later also a motocross driver. He has been in a wheelchair since an accident in 1997. During rehabilitation he started skiing and eventually took part in the 2010 Winter Paralympics in Vancouver, where he finished 21st in the seated giant slalom. In 2014 he commented at the Paralympics for the public broadcaster NHK .

In the 2019 council selection, Yokosawa was nominated by the center-left opposition ( KDP , DVP, KPJ , SDP ) as a unity candidate in Iwate against the Liberal Democrat Tatsuo Hirano . With 49% of the vote, he narrowly prevailed against Hirano (46.3%). Shortly after the election, he joined the DVP.
