Takao (mountain)

The Takao ( Japanese 高 尾 山 , -san ) is the local mountain of Hachioji in Japan . He still belongs to the city and is only 599 meters high, but is immediately adjacent to the almost sea level lying Kanto level with the cities of Tokyo and Yokohama , which he on a clear day offers a wide view. A cable car leads up to it .

Its proximity to Tokyo and easy access by cable car make it one of the most important destinations for day-trippers from the metropolitan area of Japan . The Yakuōinyūkiji ( 薬 王 院 有喜 寺 ) monastery near the summit is an important monastery of the Buddhist Shingon school, as this school regards the Takao as one of three sacred mountains in the Kantō area.

The mountain is accessed by a funicular and a chairlift from Takao Tozan Dentetsu .
