Takavaran

Takavaran (Singular Takavar) are special forces of the Iranian Army . They are under the direct command of the revolutionary leader .

The tasks of the unit include reconnaissance , direct actions, especially against maritime targets, sabotage , the use behind enemy lines, hostage rescue and targeted killing of people.

The twelve-month training begins with an eight-week physical exercise phase. Then the candidates are trained in diving , skydiving , weapon use and martial arts . They are accepted after a six month trial period in the unit.

The unit was originally built by combat swimmers , later by Russian spetsnaz .
