Takla Mariam

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Takla Mariam ( Ethiop . ተክለ ማርያም , “plant of Mary ”, throne name Hezba Nañ ህዝበ ናኝ ; † 1433 ) was Negus Negest ( emperor ) of Ethiopia from 1430 to 1433 and a member of the Solomon dynasty . He was the second son of Yeshaq I.

Manoel de Almeida notes that the descendants of Takla Mariam were brought down from Amba Geshen by Emperor Zara Yaqob and exiled in hot areas with many diseases. When his son, the Emperor Ba'eda Mariam , tried to make amends at the beginning of his rule by calling them back from their exile, they killed his messengers. Ba'eda Mariam immediately took punitive action and had 80 of them beheaded. Even so, in Almeida's time they were still closely guarded.
