Takwa is a ruined city on the island of Manda ( Lamu County ) in Kenya . Takwa was a Swahili trading town from the 15th and 16th centuries. Century. Takwa is located in the southeast of Manda Island, at the narrowest point of the island. The settlement was abandoned in the 17th century, probably as a result of the increasing salinity of the drinking water and the recurring fighting between the residents of Takwa and the residents of the neighboring island of Pate . In 1982 the ruins were declared a National Monument.

The remains of a large Friday mosque with a large column on the qibla wall belong to the site . It is believed that the pillar marked the tomb of a sheikh or sayyid .
