The Alfaiates dam ( Portuguese Barragem de Alfaiates ) is located in the Central Portugal region in the Guarda district . The municipality of Alfaiates is about a kilometer northeast of the dam.

The project to build the dam began in 1992. The construction was completed in 1999. The dam is used for irrigation. It is owned by Hidroprojecto .

Barrier structure

The barrier structure is a dam with a height of 20 m above the foundation level (16 m above the river bed). The top of the dam is at a height of 804 m above sea level . The length of the dam crest is 206 m and its width 6 m. The volume of the dam is 86,000 m³.

The dam has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 1.2 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 98.6 m³ / s via the flood discharge. The design flood is 106 m³ / s; the probability of this event occurring has been determined to be once in 1,000 years.

Reservoir

With a normal storage target of 801 m (maximum 802.5 m at high water), the reservoir extends over an area of around 0.22 km² and holds 0.854 million m³ of water - of which 0.65 million m³ can be used. The minimum storage target is 795.5 m.
