The Teja dam ( Portuguese Barragem de Teja or Barragem do Terrenho ) is located in the central region of Portugal in the Guarda district . It dams the Teja , a left (southern) tributary of the Douro, to a reservoir. The municipality of Terrenho is located about two kilometers southwest of the dam.

The project to build the dam began in 1990. The construction was completed in 1995. The dam is used to supply drinking water. It is owned by the Trancoso County Council , CM Trancoso .

Barrier structure

The barrier structure is a dam with a height of 16 m above the river bed. The top of the dam is at an altitude of 692 m above sea level . The length of the dam crest is 177 m and its width 6 m. The volume of the dam is 70,000 m³.

The dam has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 1.04 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet. The design flood is 121 m³ / s; the probability of this event occurring was determined to be once every 100 years.

Reservoir

With the normal storage target of 689.5 m (maximum 690.74 m at high water), the reservoir holds 2.805 million m³ of water - of which 2.743 million m³ can be used. The minimum congestion target is 680 m.
