The Vale Madeiro dam ( Portuguese Barragem de Vale Madeiro ) is located in the north of Portugal in the Bragança district . It dams the Ribeira de Mourel to a reservoir . The small town of Mirandela is about four kilometers west of the dam.

The dam was completed in 2004. It is used for irrigation. The dam is owned by the Direcção Regional de Agricultura de Trás-os-Montes .

Barrier structure

The barrier structure consists of a dam with a height of 29.6 m above the river bed. The crest of the dam is at a height of 294.5 m above sea level . The length of the dam crest is 186.3 m and its width 7 m. The volume of the dam is 202,000 m³.

The dam has a flood relief system that can discharge a maximum of 179 m³ / s. The design flood is 3 m³ / s.

Reservoir

With the normal storage target of 291 m (maximum 293 m at high water), the reservoir extends over an area of ​​around 0.183 km² and holds 1.509 million m³ of water - of which 1.335 million m³ can be used. The minimum storage target is 277 m.
