Tamás Szombathelyi (born May 1, 1953 in Budapest ) is a former Hungarian pentathlete .
Career
Tamás Szombathelyi won two silver medals at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow . In the individual, he only had to admit defeat to Anatoli Starostin , with the team that included Szombathelyi and László Horváth and Tibor Maracskó , he placed behind the Soviet team around Starostin.
At world championships , Szombathelyi only came second several times. In 1981 he became vice world champion with the team, in the individual he won bronze. In 1983 it finally stayed in the individual and with the team at silver, in both competitions he was left behind against Anatoli Starostin and his Soviet team.
