from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tamara Henderson (* 1982 in Sackville ) is a Canadian video and installation artist . She lives and works in Vancouver .

life and work

Henderson studied at NSCAD University in Halifax and the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main. She graduated from the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm with a Master of Fine Arts .

The artist pursues an instinct-driven approach in her way of working. Through a continuous practice of writing, drawing and recording everyday objects, she develops her own mythology . By capturing the patterns of objects and atmospheric phenomena and logging their occurrence in dreams, Henderson seeks to expand the conventional categories of consciousness.

"For example, Henderson created furniture as works of art under hypnosis : the chairs that were created in this way are labeled with the addresses of the treatment rooms of the various hypnotists and thus refer to the process of their design and ultimately to the unconscious of their creator."

Tamara Henderson creates short, non-narrative 16mm films that she sometimes integrates into her installations.

Tamara Henderson exhibited in numerous museums and galleries. She showed her work in 2017 at the Vancouver Art Gallery , 2016 at the Moderna Museet , Stockholm and 2012 at the dOCUMENTA (13) in Kassel.
