Sludgeworth was a Chicago punk band founded in 1989 and disbanded in 1992 . In 2007 and 2008 she performed briefly together again.

history

The band was formed in 1989 by Screeching Weasel members Dan Schafer (also known as Dan Vapid) and Brian Vermin as a side project. In the same year, the two decided to leave Screeching Weasel to concentrate entirely on Sludgeworth. The basement of Vermin's parents' house served as a rehearsal room. In 1990 the band released their first EP , which was self-titled, followed by the album What's This in 1991 . Schafer then returned to Screeching Weasel due to musical differences and Sludgeworth was considered dissolved by the end of 1992. Nevertheless, one last concert took place at the beginning of 1993. The rest of the disbanded group teamed up with another singer and carried on under a new name. In 1995 a compilation was released with pieces from the album What's This , the two tracks Anytime and You and I , which were released on singles in 1992, along with unreleased songs, some of which were planned for a next regular album.

In November 2007 the band reunited for the Riot Festival in Chicago, and in 2008 for an appearance at the Insubordination Fest in Baltimore . The latter was recorded and released on CD and DVD.

style

Schafer's idols were the Ramones and the local heroes Naked Raygun , for whom Sludgeworth was allowed to open the show once. For Bernd Granz from Rock Hard , Sludgeworth is a “pleasantly digestible” punk band who “attaches great importance to sophisticated vocal lines and good melodies”. Kevin Prested described in his book Punk USA. The Rise and Fall of Lookout Records the compositions as "melodic and heart-touching punk hymns". The internet music platform discogs.com characterizes the style as pop-punk.
