Tamayo Marukawa ( Japanese 丸 川 珠 代 , Marukawa Tamayo , actually 大 塚 珠 代 , Ōtsuka Tamayo ; born January 19, 1971 in Kobe , Hyōgo Prefecture ) is a Japanese politician of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP, Machimura faction ) and has represented Tokyo Prefecture since 2007 in the upper house of the national parliament . From 2016 to 2017 she was the Olympic Minister in Abe's third cabinet, which was reorganized for the second time .

After graduating from Tokyo University in Economics, Marukawa joined TV Asahi , where she spent a year in the New York office. In 2007 she left the company to switch to politics in the upcoming 2007 upper house election .

She ran in Tokyo Prefecture, which elected five members of the House of Lords for the first time, as one of two LDP candidates alongside incumbent Sanzo Hosaka . Marukawa achieved the fourth-highest share of the vote with 11.7%, while Hosaka only reached sixth place with 11.0% and thus missed re-election. In the 2013 and 2019 elections , it received over 1 million votes and clearly the highest percentage of votes.

From 2012 to 2013 she was Parliamentary State Secretary ( daijin seimukan ) in the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor for the second cabinet of Shinzō Abe . From 2015 to 2016, she was Environment Minister in Abe's cabinet, which was reorganized for the first time . In August 2016 she followed Toshiaki Endō to the office of Olympic Minister, in 2017 she was replaced by Shun'ichi Suzuki .

Her husband is the LDP MP Taku Ōtsuka (Machimura faction, Saitama 9 constituency, formerly: Tokyo proportional representation), whom she married in 2008.
