Women's National Basketball Association

Whitmore was selected in the 1999 WNBA Draft by the New York Liberty in 30th place. She played a total of five seasons for Liberty. Probably her strongest season in New York was in the 2002 season , when she played in all 32 games from the start. She got 30.5 minutes of playing time per game this season and averaged 12.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.3 blocks during this time. With that she set a personal record in all 4 categories. Whitmore could also celebrate sporting success with the Liberty. She reached the WNBA finals with the Liberty 2000 and 2002 , where the Liberty always clearly failed 2-0 first at the Houston Comets and then at the Los Angeles Sparks .

After the 2003 season , Whitmore signed a two-year contract with the Los Angeles Sparks . At the Sparks she was only a substitute player in the 2004 season . This then also had an effect on her statistics, she got little playing time for her circumstances and therefore only scored 6.2 points per game. In the 2005 season she was the first time permanently in the starting lineup of the Sparks. In both seasons with the Sparks she reached the playoffs, where the Sparks always failed in the Conference Semifinals to the Sacramento Monarchs .

After the 2005 season, she signed with the Indiana Fever . In the 2006 season she played her best season to date in the WNBA. Whitmore got 31.1 minutes of playing time per game and averaged 15.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.4 steals in that time. In doing so, she set a new personal record in all of the categories mentioned. In the playoffs she failed with the Fever already in the conference semifinals due to the shock. In the second game in the series, she scored 41 points, which meant a new WNBA playoff record in points. Lisa Leslie previously held the record with 35 points. In the 2007 season she did not get as much playing time as in the previous season, so her point average fell this season to 10.9 points per game. Nevertheless, she was able to set a new personal record with 5 rebounds per game. In the playoffs she failed again with the Fever due to the shock. This time in the Eastern Conference Finals.

On February 19, 2008 Whitmore and a first-round pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft was transferred to the Connecticut Sun for Katie Douglas .
