Tancama
Tancama ( Huaxtec : fire (stone) place) is a small archaeological site in the Mexican state of Queretaro .
location
The Tancama site, located about 975 m above sea level, is near the small settlement of Tancama about 10 km southeast of Jalpan de Serra in the mountainous region of the Sierra Gorda .
history
The construction of the site dates from before 500 AD to around 900 AD, although its foundation possibly until the 2nd / 3rd century AD. Century. The site is shaped by the Huaxtec culture.
Archaeological site
In Tancama, which is open to the public since 2011, are two places ( plazas around several round, semi-circular and rectangular) pyramid base was exposed. In addition, the site has a ball playground about 18 meters long, which is one of the smallest that was discovered in Mesoamerica . No steles or remains of stucco cladding were found.
