Kidnapping of Tanya Kach

As the kidnapping of Tanya Kach , the more than ten years long deprivation of liberty of the student Tanya Kach by Thomas Hose in McKeesport ( Pennsylvania ) became known in the media.

Tanya Nicole Kach, born on October 14, 1981, was reported missing on February 10, 1996 at the age of 14 and was found alive on March 23, 2006. She was in the hands of her kidnapper for 3,694 days.

On the day of her disappearance, Tanya stayed away from class without excuse. Since she was in love with Thomas Hose, a security guard at the school, they both made plans to "run away" together. However, upon arrival at Hose's house, where his parents lived, she was locked in a bedroom. During her ten years in detention, she was required to eat and wear what she was told. She only had contact with the residents of Hose's home. She was only two miles from her father's home in captivity.

When Hose and Tanya visited a store, she confided in the seller - he informed the police. After her release, Thomas Hose was charged with sexual assault, other sexual offenses and violations of the "welfare of the child". Judith Clara Sokol, then 57 and a beautician from McKeesport, was charged with the same offenses - she had helped change Kach's hair and appearance so that Tanya was not recognized.
