history
The ensemble was launched on June 1, 1953. Alongside the “ Mazowsze ” ensemble, it is the second state ensemble of its kind in Poland. Stanisław Hadyna is commissioned with the establishment. The task of the ensemble was initially to maintain the Silesian folklore based on traditional repertoire from the Upper Silesian, Teschner Silesian and Beskydy regions. Other folk dances and folk songs from many ethnographic regions of Poland and Europe were added later. The premiere took place on October 16, 1954 in the Teatr Śląski in Katowice . After the premiere, other appearances followed in Warsaw (November 6, 1954) and other cities in Poland. This was followed by trips to the Eastern Bloc and later to the western world.
The repertoire includes Polish national dances ( Krakowiak , Kujawiak , Mazur , Oberek , Polonez ), ethnographic folklore, such as songs and dances from many regions of Europe and also sacred songs, patriotic songs, operettas and arias.
The seat of the ensemble is the castle in Koschentin .
