The first dance house in Augsburg originally stood next to the town hall on the fish market and was used by the upper class for dance events and weddings. How long it has been there is not known. In 1396 the city built a new dance hall right next to the Moritzkirche on Weinmarkt (today's Maximilianstrasse ). The new building was a half-timbered building that included both a dance hall on the upper floor and a market hall for bakers, butchers and fruit sellers on the ground floor. The double use was chosen because there was previously a market place at this point.

Only a few years later it was demolished and rebuilt. It is believed that the reason for the demolition in 1429 was the limited space inside. With the new building, the mansion moved into the building and from then on gender dances were also held. In 1438 there were no celebrations in the dance hall, as that year the council of the imperial city had stored around 400 Schaff grain there to avoid famine. After the dance house was completely destroyed by fire in 1451, the city decided in 1452 to build a new stone building without a mansion. The new dance house achieved a high representative function on festive occasions or at Reichstag . During this time, the south gable was also decorated with paintings.

In 1577 the Augsburg upper class finally celebrated the last gender dance and the importance of the dance house was increasingly lost in the years that followed. The demolition of the building, which was now described as dilapidated, was originally planned for 1608 and was not carried out until 1632. With the demolition, the dance house tradition in Augsburg, which went back to the 14th century, ended.
