Wallpaper

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tapet or tapis is an outdated expression for the upholstery of a conference table . Mostly the word is used in the phrase “bring something up”, which means “address something”, “make something on the subject” or “put something up for discussion”.

It comes from the French: mettre une affaire sur le tapis . Tapis or Tapet with the German words wallpaper and tapestry related. Johann Georg Krünitz ' Oeconomische Encyclopädie mentions the old Latin wallpaper for a carpet or a knitted tablecloth , which is outdated in High German . This word has only been used in the phrase "put something on the wall" and comes from the carpet lying on the table of a council meeting. The phrase has been used in Germany since 1697.

Instead of the phrase “put something on the wall”, “ bring something onto the tray ” or “ bring something onto the trapeze ” is often incorrectly used.
