Medal of Bravery (Croatia)

The medal of the chief Ante Pavelić for bravery ( Croatian Kolajna poglavnika Ante Pavelića za hrabrost ; outdated for short also Croatian Bravery Award) was a state war award of the Independent State of Croatia (NDH). The medal was donated on December 27, 1941 by the leader Ante Pavelić as a visible symbol of personal bravery in battle.

Appearance

The medal shows on its obverse the portrait of Pavelić's head looking to the right, enclosed by the inscription: POGLAVNIK ANTE PAVELIĆ(Chief Ante Pavelić).

The lapel shows a variant of the Croatian wickerwork , in the middle the coat of arms of the Ustascha and above the inscription ZA DOM SPREMNI(Ready for the homeland) and ZA HRABROST(For bravery). The central coat of arms shows the well-known U, in the space of which a small coat of arms of the Independent State of Croatia can be seen with the checkerboard pattern, above which a flame blazes. Between these flames is the date 10 IVand to the left and right of U’sthe separate year 19and 41can be read for the founding day of the Independent State of Croatia , April 10, 1941.

Carrying method

The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest of the borrower on a triangular ribbon , the basic color of which is red and its wide hem is white.
