Taqwacore
Taqwacore is a genre of punk that is related to Islam and its culture.
The term was coined by the American writer Michael Muhammad Knight, who converted to Islam, in a novel called The Taqwacores , where it describes as an artificial word from the Arabic term Taqwa ( fear of God or humility towards Allah ) and the English word hardcore as an analogy for hardcore -Punk an Islamic influenced and shaped punk music movement.
In the documentary film Taqwacore: The Birth of Punk Islam , which was made in 2009 and influenced by Knight's book , bands such as The Kominas, Al-Thawra and Vote Hezbollah first became known to a wider public. There is still no definitive pronounced Taqwacore sound, the artists play from different genres, from punk to hip-hop .
