The Tarbolton Parish Church is a church building of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland in the Scottish village of Tarbolton in the Council Area South Ayrshire . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A. The church is still in use as such.

history

At the site of today's church there was a previous medieval building , but no remains of it can be found. When it was decided to build a new church in 1820, it was decided against a change of location. The Scottish architect Robert Johnston is responsible for the design . The building was constructed in 1821 at a total cost of around £ 2500. The pulpit and organ were renewed in 1907. Around this time, the bell tower collapsed and the building was redesigned.

description

The neo-classical Tarbolton Parish Church is in the middle of the surrounding cemetery on Cunningham Street in central Tarbolton. The north-facing front of the two-story building is five axes wide. The entrance area emerges in the middle. It consists of two smaller wooden doors flanking a central one. Only the middle door is with glare pillars and simple cornices decorated, while all inputs with fighters windows close. Above that, two simple lattice windows flank a Venetian window . The part of the building ends with the square bell tower. The gradually tapering tower is designed with pilasters and closes with a pointed helmet . The side facades are designed with rectangular lattice windows on the ground floor and arched windows on the upper floor and are four axes wide. The almost square building closes with a slate-covered platform roof .
