Tarung is a village in the western part of Sumba Island in Indonesia. The settlement is located on a hill in the southwestern district of Waikabubak , in the rural district of Loli. In 2002 there were 128 people living here, 54 men and 74 women. About 10 percent of the population are Christians. The full name in Loli is Tarung (Taringu) Majaga, Sodi Wua Manjoba and in Indonesian Kampung yg. sedih yg. tinggi, batu kubur sebuah yg. tidur in German high-lying mourning village with a sleeping tombstone (literally village sadly high, tombstone one who sleeps ). It is an important center for traditional ceremonies. Between the houses there are grave sites and a place of worship for the spirits and ancestors, a marapus .
