Waikabubak

Waikabubak is a city on the Indonesian island of Sumba . The city is the capital of the West Umba District and the second largest city on the island. Around 10,000 people live in Waikabubak.

Most of the island's population is Christian . Mainly Calvinists live on the island, but also Catholics . There is also a Muslim minority on the island , most of whom live in the largest cities of Waikabubak and Waingapu . The population is partly sorted by cast. However, this has become rare in the west of the island around Waikabubak.

history

The city belonged to the Dutch East Indies from 1866 to 1945 , after the end of World War II it became part of the independent state of Indonesia . The history of the city has been shaped by sometimes armed conflicts between clans , some of which continue to this day.

transport

The island of Sumba has been developed for tourism through the Umbu Mehang Kunda airport located on the island .
