Pocket money (penal system)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In German penal law, pocket money refers to those amounts of money that are granted to a needy prisoner if, through no fault of his own, he does not receive any wages or training allowances.

According to § 46 StVollzG , reasonable pocket money is paid if the prisoner cannot fulfill his duty to work according to § 41 StVollzG and does not earn any income. The prisoner can use this for shopping, among other things ( § 22 StVollzG).

Due to the different regulations of the penal code of the federal states , the appropriate amount is determined differently. In Hessen , for example, this is currently around 30 euros per month.

Unused pocket money will be paid out upon release from the penal institution .
