from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As pocket flaps or semilunar valve is referred to those heart valves , by crescent-shaped, bird's nest-like arranged pockets (semilunares valvulae) are marked. Pocket valves are found on the heart of mammals on the two outflow channels of the heart chambers. The pocket valve of the aorta is known as the aortic valve (Valva aortae) , that of the Truncus pulmonalis as the pulmonary valve (Valva trunci pulmonalis) .

Pocket valves consist of a duplication of the inner lining of the heart ( endocardium ). The free edges can have nodular thickenings, which are known as Noduli valvarum semilunarium ( Noduli Arantii ) and improve the valve closure .
