Cake in a cup

Chocolate mug cake

A mug cake , also known as mug cake (from English mug 'mug' and cake 'cake'), is a small cake that belongs to the sponge cake . It is prepared directly in a large cup or mug and usually baked in the microwave rather than in a conventional oven .

The basis is a simple batter made of a few ingredients (typically 1 egg , sugar , oil or liquid butter , milk , flour and baking powder ), which are measured spoon by spoon and mixed directly in the cup, in which the cake is then baked and served. This means that mug cakes can be made very quickly and easily, without great baking knowledge and without special kitchen accessories. A cup cake is usually the same as one serving for one person. The baking time in the microwave is, depending on the amount of dough and the power of the appliance, only 1–2 minutes and must be set to almost a second so that the dough does not become too firm or rubbery. It increases in size by about half. A crispy crust does not form because, strictly speaking, the cake is not baked in the microwave , but only cooked. Mug cakes are usually consumed warm.

The trend originally comes from the USA . Meanwhile, are commercially baking mixes for cup cakes available.
