Pigeon tower in Moulidars

The pigeon tower (French colombier or pigeonnier ) of the Château d'Ardenne in Moulidars , a French commune in the Charente department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region , was built in 1717. The former pigeon tower made of quarry stone stands north of the village about 100 meters from the castle.

The pigeon tower was built for the lord and owner of the castle Pierre Méhée d'Ardenne with royal permission. The round tower made of quarry stone has 850 nests for the pigeons inside. Around 1900 an opening was made halfway up the tower in order to use the tower as a barn for the farm.

The association Le pigeonnier d'Ardenne , founded in 2003, strives to preserve the pigeon tower. It can be viewed by arrangement with the association.
