Tomihisa Taue ( Japanese 田 上 富 久 , Taue Tomihisa ; born December 10, 1956 in the Gotō Islands ) is a Japanese politician and since April 2007 mayor of Nagasaki .

Taue studied law at Kyushu University . After graduating , he started working in the Nagasaki City Council, first in the public relations and tourism sectors.

When the incumbent mayor Itchō Itō was gunned down by the yakuza member Tetsuya Shiroo in April 2007 after an election campaign shortly before the unified regional elections in 2007 and died as a result of his high blood loss, Taue decided to run for the office of mayor. He came up against Makoto Yokoo, Itō's son-in-law. Taue, who only submitted his candidacy five days before the election, tried to portray Yokoo's candidacy as nepotism and patronage . Many voters, on the other hand, felt that sticking to the election date so shortly after Ito's death was tactless and so it happened that some voters labeled ballot papers with Ito's name or voted in protest . After a close result and several recounts, Taue was elected mayor with a margin of 953 votes.

Like its predecessor, Taue also campaigns against nuclear weapons . Shortly after his election as mayor, he criticized Fumio Kyūma for his statements on the atomic bombing of Nagasaki, made in a speech at Reitaku University on June 30, 2007 . He also criticized the liberal-democratic politician Taku Yamasaki for his statements about North Korean nuclear weapons tests, in which Yamasaki had described them as useful for understanding North Korean nuclear weapons capacity. Yamasaki later stated that he was an opponent of nuclear weapons just like Taue.
