Technical Standard Order

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Technical Standard Orders ( TSO for short , Technical Standard Ordinance in German ) are detailed airworthiness specifications issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for components and equipment parts of civil aircraft .

The specifications serve as the basis for the development of devices and add-on parts for aircraft. Compliance with the applicable specification is certified for a component and equipment part by the TSO approval ( TSO Authorization ) from the FAA.

Admission

A TSO approval gives permission to manufacture a product that can be installed in an aircraft. In order to obtain approval for installation in an aircraft, the product must meet minimum requirements for airworthiness for the specific aircraft type and this must be verified in a separate test. An approval according to TSO is therefore not an automatic authorization to install the product in an aircraft, this in turn requires a review by the FAA.

Valid in Europe

In Europe the European Technical Standard Approval, ETSO, applies . It is by the European Aviation Safety Agency issued (European Aviation Safety Agency, EASA) and thus apply primarily for equipment of civil, commercial aviation within the EU .
