Technician Fifth Grade (also abbreviated as Tech 5 or T / 5) was a grade of the American armed forces for technical specialists during the Second World War .

In this way, conscripted soldiers who had important skills through their civilian occupation (such as radio technicians, medical personnel, language mediators, etc.) could be deployed in the armed forces in their special field.

Therefore, with instructions from the American Department of War of January 8, 1942, this rank was introduced and equated in salary with the rank of corporal , and initially its badge was used. However, a Technician Fifth Grade did not have the authority of a corporal, so a separate rank badge, a corporal counter with a stylized "T", was created to distinguish it by decree of September 4, 1942.
