Engineering plastics
Technical plastics (also techno- plastics or construction materials ) are a sub-group of thermoplastic plastics and are differentiated from standard plastics , high-performance plastics and functional plastics in terms of properties and price, even if the classification is not clear. Compared to standard plastics, they have better mechanical properties, such as greater impact strength or higher modulus of elasticity, and are therefore also suitable for technical applications and, in some cases, construction applications (load-bearing parts).
Occasionally, engineering plastics are also defined by the fact that their mechanical values and dimensional stability are retained in some temperature ranges below 0 ° C or above 100 ° C.
The distinction to standard plastics and high-performance plastics is illustrated in the following figure. Abbreviations can be clicked.
