history
In 1907 ( Meiji year 40) the Meiji Technical School ( 明治 専 門 学校 , Meiji semmon gakkō ) was founded, a private technical college. The founders were the coal entrepreneur Keiichirō Yasukawa ( 安川 敬 一郎 , 1849-1934) and his son Kenjirō Matsumoto ( 松本 健 次郎 , 1870-1963). The technical college was opened in 1909 with three departments: mining, metallurgy and mechanical engineering. In 1921 it became a state university of applied sciences. Over the years she added departments: Applied chemistry (1911), electrical engineering (1911), and explosives technology (1943). In 1944 it was renamed the Meiji Technical Center ( 明治 工業 専 門 学校 , Meiji kōgyō semmon gakkō ).
In 1949 the Meiji Technical Center was elevated to the Kyushu Technical University. In 1965 she founded the Graduate School (master’s courses), then in 1988 the doctoral courses. The university was opened with only the technical faculty; In 1986 she added the second faculty (computer science) in the new Iizuka campus. In 2000 she opened the third campus in Wakamatsu, Kitakyūshū (Japanese 大 学院 生命 体 工 学 研究 科 , English Graduate School of Life Science and Systems Engineering . 33 ° 53 ′ 20.2 ″ N , 130 ° 42 ′ 36.2 ″ E ).
