The Piccolo is a single-seat self-launching motor glider from the German manufacturer Technoflug Leichtflugzeugbau GmbH & Co.KG. The company in the Black Forest produced around 120 pieces, some of them with UL approval.

construction

Motor and folding propeller of the Piccolo a

The single-seat shoulder - wing glider in GRP construction is driven by a permanently installed two-stroke engine of the SOLO 2350 BS (23 HP) type, which is mounted behind the wings in a push arrangement. The Technoflug KS 118-3-2 folding propeller (1.22 m diameter) with aluminum hub and three individually foldable blades is driven by a reduction gear made of three V-belts (2.1: 1). When the engine is switched off, the blades automatically fold backwards and thus ensure reduced air resistance when gliding . The centrifugal force immediately puts the GRP blades back into operating position when the engine is started. The first Piccolo (also called Piccolo a) were built with a pointed nose by LTB Borowski in Fluorn-Winzeln (later by Technoflug) with the Solo 2350B and propeller KS 118-3 (diameter 1.18 m). In this version, the Piccolo does not achieve the increased noise protection as the Piccolo b. Most of the Piccolo have been converted to Piccolo b over time. The braced wings are provided with spoilers . They can be easily dismantled by a single person with the help of an assembly aid.

use

The Piccolo is designed as a motor glider in accordance with JAR 22 and is based on Albert Neukom's AN-20K light aircraft. The fact that it was not designed as a glider is reflected both in its external appearance with braced wings, masked leading edge and its tripod nose gear, as well as in its performance. It is therefore more suitable for air hiking than for performance flying.
