Marie Proksch

Marie Proksch (* 1836 in Prague ; † May 17, 1900 there ) was a Bohemian pianist and composer .

She was born as the daughter of the pianist and music teacher Josef Proksch . Her training was provided by her father. On a tour in 1856/57, which included a stay of several months in Paris , she became known as a concert pianist. After the death of her father (1864), she and her brother Theodor Proksch took over the management of the "Music Education Institute" founded by her father in Prague, which she managed alone after the death of her brother in 1876. Marie Proksch also composed pieces for piano herself. Bedřich Smetana , also a student of her father, dedicated No. 6 of his album pages to her in 1862 .
