The Technologiefabrik Remscheid (TFR) is a start-up and technology center in Remscheid, North Rhine-Westphalia, founded in 1990 as a joint venture between the public sector and business . It was the first start-up and technology center in the Bergisches Land .

The Remscheid technology factory was founded in 1990 on the initiative of the city of Remscheid together with various Remscheid companies as the first start-up and technology center in the Bergisches Land on an approx. 15,000 m² plot built. To this end, the Remscheider Wirtschaftsförderungs GmbH was founded in which the city took a 40 percent share and the municipal utility took a 12 percent share. The remainder was owned by private companies. After the bankruptcy of the Remscheider Wirtschaftsförderungs GmbH, the TFR was initially taken over by the Klingelnberg company. Later it went to the company Dala Thirteen GmbH in Düsseldorf. After the bankruptcy of this group in 2010, the TFR was sold to the Lennep-based real estate company Kobold in 2014 .

Until 2012 the TFR was the seat of the Research Association for Tools and Materials (FGW). When it was established as a conference and technology center, the Remscheid technology factory assumed a pioneering role in the region. With a similar concept originated in the sequence in Bergisch City Triangle in 1992 in Wuppertal , the Technology Center Wuppertal (w-tec) and 1995 in Solingen , the founder and Technology Center Solingen (GuT).

In addition to the public bistro Genuss Fabrik and conference rooms for up to 300 participants, the technology factory has a total of 11,500 m² of production and office space for individual use. There are currently 42 different companies in the TFR, including branches of Thomas Cook AG and Vaillant Germany . As part of the Art Factory project, changing exhibitions and cultural events take place in the TFR. The TFR is operated and administered by Technologie Fabrik Remscheid GmbH & Co. KG.
