Techtelmechtel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In colloquial terms, a quackery is a more or less secret love affair. Techtelmechtel is also known as "Gspusi" in Austrian and South German . The word Gspusi is related to the Italian word sposi , betrothed, married couple.

In general, such a love relationship is assumed to be of little seriousness. In Karl Friedrich Wilhelm Wanders German Proverbs Lexicon of 1876, the phrase "Das is a Techt'lmecht'l" is used as an "appointment of two or more people to carry out an action, including a mutually beneficial, otherwise detrimental agreement" described.

etymology

The term penetrated the southern German area from the Austrian-speaking area in the 19th century . The word probably developed from Red Welschen or Yiddish . It is a rhyming word, consisting of the word tacht (i) = secretly, secretly, which is repeated with slight variations. The origin of the Italian teco-meco (me with you, you with me), presumed in numerous reference works, is not certain. There is no evidence of a Hebrew origin suspected by Paul Elbogen .
