Teddeus Guo Yingong

Teddeus Guo Yingong (also Thaddeus Guo Yingong ; born May 1, 1917 in Xubao ; † January 4, 2005 in Datong ) was bishop of the Roman Catholic diocese of Datong in the Chinese province of Shanxi .

Life

Teddeus Guo Yingong was born in 1917 in Xibu, Datong Administrative District . The son of a non-Catholic family received the sacrament of baptism at the age of twelve. When he was 16 years old, he entered the Minor Seminary in Xiwanzi (in the Chinese province of Hebei ) and studied philosophy at the Suiyuan (Hohhot) Seminary from 1939 . His theological studies he joined the seminary in Datong from and received on 4 August 1946, the priestly ordination .

During the Cultural Revolution (1966–1976) he spent 13 years in labor camps. Later he was the first rector to lead the seminary in Shanxi (Taiyuan). On July 8, 1990, he was ordained bishop of Datong Diocese.

During his time as bishop he founded the Congregation of the "Sisters of the Sacred Heart", the first congregation of sisters in the Diocese of Datong.

The bishop was buried in the cemetery of Datong Cathedral on January 12th.
