Political engagement and legal problems

Teddy Afro is one of the critics of the Ethiopian Revolutionary Democratic Front of the Ethiopian Peoples (EPRDF). His album Yasetseryal contains criticism of the government between the lines. It was published in the context of the elections in Ethiopia in May 2005, which were associated with considerable political turbulence. Teddy Afro was imprisoned from April 2008 to August 13, 2009 for hit and run in connection with the death of a person. Critics of the government have alleged that the prison sentence was imposed solely for political reasons, as he always criticized the Ethiopian government in his songs.
