Teddy bear virus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The teddy bear virus is a hoax from 2002 . The hoax claims that the JDBGMGR.exe file is a computer virus and should therefore be deleted. In fact, this file, whose icon is a gray teddy bear (also known as "Microsoft Bear"), belongs to Microsoft Internet Explorer and contains the Microsoft Debugger Registrar for Java .

This hoax was probably caused by the W32 / Magistr virus . This infects system files (including JDBGMGR.exe ) and then sends them via email, albeit with a slightly different file name. Occasionally the hoax is also in circulation with other file names, this usually includes the SETDEBUG.EXE file , as it uses the same icon. Many computer users find these files suspicious because they have an icon that is rather "atypical" for system files. A warning was also given about files with other symbols, such as SULFNBK.EXE or UPWIZUN.EXE .

Problems that could arise from deleting JDBGMGR.exe usually only affect Java developers (Microsoft Visual J ++ v1.1).
