The pond Dr. Claassen is a protected, extensive natural monument in the Lower Saxony district of Aurich in East Frisia . It bears the number ND AUR 00119.
Description of the area
The extensive natural monument to the east of the village center, designated on April 3, 1987, is located south and west of the Eetsweg road entirely in the area of the Upgant-Schott community , which in turn is part of the Brookmerland community .
The water is of artificial origin and was created by soil degradation. It is characterized by a design of unequal height , steep and shallow bank zones as well as swamp- like shallow water areas. The pond thus forms a spawning and feeding biotope for amphibians and provides a habitat for numerous adapted animal and plant species. In the opinion of the Aurich district, it is also an important feeding and resting habitat for various bird species.
