history

The mill was originally located on the outskirts of the village of Helmersdorf, which became deserted in the late Middle Ages; from 1215 it probably belonged to the Cistercian monastery of Frankenhausen, which was secularized in 1536. The mill was sold to a wealthy citizen Stephan Schiecken as early as 1505 (as an inheritance). As a result of secularization, the mill, the property belonging to it and all rights were transferred to the Frankenhausen office. The mill was leased again, which resulted in unauthorized modifications to the water supply. The incident, which was classified as a criminal offense, was officially investigated and resulted in the imprisonment of a miller. On May 20, 1628, a water level marker (safety gate) was attached to the Mühlbach in the presence of the sovereign. In 1743 a windmill was built in the neighboring town of Esperstedt, which meant that the pond mill and other mills in the area lost some of their customers. The windmill Bare was sued for damages, then bought the pond mill and leased the plant. In 1798 the community Esperstedt acquired the compulsory meal rights (mill ban) to the pond mill, which was mainly used as an oil and pearl mill. The mill lands are also leased more often. With Friedrich Vocke, who acquired the Teichmühle in 1843, the Teichmühle was thoroughly renovated and modernized. The company is very profitable, so the city of Frankenhausen is trying to take over this property (taxes and duties). Kommerzienrat Hugo Hornung acquired the Teichmühle and the property around 1880, and the mill was used as a sideline business as early as 1910. As a result of the First World War, due to neglected maintenance work and the switch to electrical grinding technology, the mill technology is no longer used. In fighting at the end of the war in 1945, several Volkssturm men were killed at the Bad Frankenhausen pond mill. The accommodation of expellees and resettlers in Frankenhausen, which was required after 1945, resulted in overcrowding in the mill building, the technology remaining inside the building was dismantled and the mill wheel removed. The land reform formed the legal basis for the division of the agricultural land that was handed over to new farmers.
