Telecommunications Management Network

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Telecommunications Management Network (TMN) is a management architecture for the distributed management of public telecommunications networks that is based on the OSI reference model.

TMN is a set of standards that is widely accepted as the basis for the effective management of telecommunications networks. It contains guidelines, architectures and protocols for the exchange of information between manager and manager or between manager and agent and is intended to support management activities in connection with telecommunications networks.

It is a completely separate logical network that exists alongside the telecommunications network and is intended to ensure uniform network management. It is intended a priori for large systems: several 1000 devices, many participants on a large geographical area.

The TMN was defined by the ITU-T in the M.3000.

Logical layers

TMN is based on the following logical layers

Business management layer
Strategic and tactical management tasks
Service management layer
QoS management, billing, user administration, SMS, service generation ...
Network management layer
Creation of the complete network view, support QoS through dedicated paths, optimize network performance, error detection ...
Network element management layer
Network element specific management. Detect equipment faults, consumption and temperature measurements, resource consumption measurements, alarm management, backup, logging ...

However, only the lower three layers are implemented. FCAPS occurs on all layers.
