Telegrams (waltz)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Telegramme is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 318). The work was performed for the first time on February 12, 1867 in the Sofienbad Hall in Vienna.

Remarks

The waltz was composed in 1867 for the carnival ball of the journalists and press association Concordia . Strauss must have finished the composition a long time before the premiere because the printed version was already available at the same time as the premiere. Back then it always took some time between completion and printing of a work. Usually Johann Strauss performed his works first and then released them for printing through his respective publisher. The waltz contains some nice melodies and was well received at first. As a result, the work disappeared from the concert schedule. This was also due to the large number of Strauss compositions in those years, which displaced each other from the concert plans.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 9 minutes and 31 seconds. Depending on the musical conception of the conductor, this time can change by up to a minute plus or minus.
