The Telekom high-rise (formerly: the telecommunications high-rise ) is the tallest building in the East Westphalian city of Bielefeld . The building, which is centrally located on Kesselbrink , has 18 floors and a height of 78 meters. Taking into account the antenna support , it reaches a height of 95.5 m. It was completed in 1974. Initially, the telecommunications office was located here.

In the run-up to Christmas, a magenta-colored Christmas tree is formed by selective lighting of individual windows on the south side of the building.

future

After Telekom moved out in 2017, there is a discussion about converting the vacant Telekom skyscraper into a residential building, possibly for students. An architectural draft has already been drawn up for this purpose, which includes removing the facade and then attaching prefabricated modules. This would increase the living space. Furthermore, the facade and the roof should be greened. The architectural design was nominated for the "World Architecture Festival 2017". In November 2017, the development plan was changed so that the offices could now be converted into apartments. In October 2018 it became known that the construction company Goldbeck had bought the building and is planning to convert it. In 2019 Goldbeck intends to submit building applications and start construction work, but it is not yet known how the building will be redesigned.
