Tell al-Rimah is an archaeological site in Jabal Sinjar in the Iraqi province of Ninawa . The place is identified with the ancient oriental city of Karana .

Seton Lloyd carried out surveys in the Jebel Sinjar in 1938 , and he also recorded this site. However, excavations did not take place until the 1960s under the direction of David Oates .

According to the results, the place was no later than the 3rd millennium BC. Settled. However, the place did not flourish until the 2nd millennium. Archaeological evidence of this period includes a palace and a temple. Political contacts with Zimri-Lim von Mari are documented by clay tablet finds. The most famous find from Tell al-Rimah, however, is a stele of Adad-nīrārī III.
