Tendinocyte

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A tendinocyte or wing cell is a type of fibroblast that occurs in the tight collagenous, parallel-fiber connective tissue of tendons . In cross section, the elongated tendinocyte has wing-shaped appendages which radiate between the adjacent collagen fibrils . Usually only the nuclei of the tendinocytes are histologically recognizable. The coordination of the tendinocytes in the network occurs through gap junctions . Due to its properties, the tendinocyte is also called a tendon or wing cell.
