Tenebris is a Polish progressive death and progressive metal band from Łódź , which was founded in 1991, disbanded in 2003 and has been active again since 2006.

history

The band was founded in 1991 and consisted of bassist and singer Tomek "Gruby" Folwarski, guitarist Mariusz Kuszewski and drummer Paweł Socha. In 1992 a first demo followed under the name Solitude . Then guitarist and singer Przemyslaw "Szymon" Szymaniak joined the line-up, before another demo appeared in the same year under the name Mesmerized . In the following year Tomasz "Burger" Burgsteler joined the line-up as keyboard player. The debut album The Odious Progress was released via Baron Records in 1994 , followed by the recording of the second album in the following year. The sound carrier was released in 1996 under the name Only Fearles Dreams via Morbid Noizz Productions on compact cassette . The CD version was released in 1997 by DSFA Records . The EP Catafalque + Mesmerized was also released by DSFA Records in 1998 . In 1999 the drummer Socha left the band before the keyboardist Burgsteler left the line-up. Towards the end of the year the group recorded the demo Leavings of Distortion Soul . In early 2000, the group recorded a third album, which, however, never came out. In 2001 Grzegorz Graczyk joined the band as a drummer, before Mirosław “Szyszka” Koprowski joined the band in 2001 as the third guitarist. In 2002, the group recorded another demo called The Comet . In mid-2003 the band announced their breakup.

In 2006 the group was re-established and its line-up was completed towards the end of the year. In 2007 the compilation Catafalque-Comet was released by Bad Taste Records . In the same year, the group also recorded another demo, which was called Melting and contained four songs. The album Leavings of Distortion Soul was released in 2009 , before the next followed in 2013 under the name Alpha Orionis . In 2014 the band played at ProgPower Europe .

style

According to Bonnek of progarchives.com , the band initially played technical and extreme metal and later developed into a style comparable to bands like Cynic and Sadist , as well as the progressive albums of Death . The use of the keyboards is based on the classic progressive metal of the 1990s. Leavings of Distortion Soul offers a post-death style, as well as influences from King Crimson of the 1990s. According to Claudia Pajzderski from Metal Hammer , the music on Only Fearless Dreams is "sometimes fast and hard, sometimes slow and melancholy". The vocals also vary, since black metal screams as well as melodic vocals are used.
