The Tengger Desert ( 騰 格里 沙漠 / 腾 格里 沙漠 , Ténggélǐ Shāmò ) is located in the southeastern Alxa region of Inner Mongolia in the People's Republic of China .
It has an area of 47,350 square kilometers and is the third largest shifting dune desert in China. There are dune fields on more than a third of the area. There are many large and small lake basins with swamps.
