Alxa is a federation in the far west of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China . The Alxa-Bund has an area of ​​267,574 km² and around 245,700 inhabitants (end of 2016). Its main town and administrative seat is the large community of Bayan Hot in the Left Alxa banner. The Alxa Bund is bordered by the state of Mongolia to the north, Gansu Province to the west and south , the Hui Autonomous Region to the southeast, and the cities of Ordos , Wuhai and Bayan Nur to the east .

Most of the area of ​​the Alxa League is taken up by the Alxa Desert , which is considered by some geographers to be part of the Gobi and which in western literature is mostly referred to as the Alashan Desert under the transcription of its Chinese name .

Administrative structure

At the district level, the Alxa Bund consists of three banners. These are:

  • Left Alxa banner (阿拉善 左旗), 80,412 km², approx. 140,000 inhabitants (2004), main town: Bayan Hot (巴彦浩特 镇);
  • Right Alxa banner (阿拉善 右 旗), 72,556 km², approx. 20,000 inhabitants (2004), capital: Großgemeinde Ehen Hudug (额 额 呼 都 格 镇);
  • Ejin-Banner (额济纳 旗), 114,606 km², approx. 20,000 inhabitants (2004), main town: Dalai Hub (达 来 呼 布 镇).
