The Ternopil Castle (Ukrainian Тернопільський замок ) was originally the residence of Jan Amor Tarnowski in 1540 . It was built between 1540–1548 in what is now the Ukrainian city of Ternopil on the banks of the Seret River with the permission of King Sigismund I (Poland) . At that time there was a wooden fence and a deep moat around the castle. This trench was connected to Lake Ternopil in 1548. The castle also forms the focal point of the city of Ternopil, which has developed over the centuries.

In the early 17th century, Ternopil passed through inheritance in the female line to Tomasz Zamoyski , who commissioned extensive renovations. The castle was besieged by the Turks in 1544, 1575, 1589 and 1672. The Ottoman army under Sisman İbrahim Paşa destroyed the castle in 1675 to such an extent that only ruins remained. Count Korytowski rebuilt it as a summer residence in the 1840s, dispensing with towers, walls and other fortifications.

In March and April 1944, the city , which was declared a “ Festes Platz ” by the Germans, was almost completely destroyed when it was retaken by the Red Army as a result of artillery bombardment and attack aircraft. The Ternopil Castle was also badly damaged.

After the Second World War, the castle was used as a sports school from 1956, but was later reconstructed and placed under monument protection. In the spring of 2009, the Ternopil City Council dealt with the question of whether it was appropriate to operate the sports school in the walls of the historic building.
